This holiday season, Valarie Rouse of our Baraboo, WI office and her daughter Abby stumbled upon the story of Safyre Terry, the lone survivor of an arson attack that killed her father and three siblings. Now living with her Aunt, 8-year-old Safyre’s only Christmas Wish is to receive Christmas cards.
With her story going viral, Safyre’s surrounding community rallied to collect Christmas cards and it has now become a national cause – one that Valarie Rouse and her daughter are spearheading in the Baraboo and Wisconsin Dells community.
"I wanted to send her cards because she's the same age as me and it was sweet that her Daddy saved her, and I wanted her wish to come true," said 8-year-old Abby Rouse.
So far the Rouse Family have collected 170 Christmas cards from the local girl scouts, the Dells Elementary schools and Valarie Rouse’s company, CENTURY 21 Affiliated. Abby has also contacted the local Walgreens and banks to sign cards for Safyre. In addition, Valarie and Abby have made a light-up sign that says “Shoot for the Moon. Even if you miss you’ll land among the Stars.”
"All you see on the news today is stories about hate. Safyre has shown how much love and compassion there still is in the world,” said Valarie. “I'm very proud of my daughter for her big heart and thinking of this girl who she doesn't even know."”
