Looking for a cool dry place for kids to play this summer? Look no further! Create a "water blob" for kids of all ages to play on.
So what is a “water blob” and how do you make one? Simple. A water blob is a large piece of plastic sheeting (a clear thin tarp) that is folded in half with the three open sides taped shut and then filled with water. When it is done it makes a cool dry play surface. It’s the perfect activity for hot summer days for all ages, especially the toddler years since it is safe. You could also turn on a sprinkler on top of it which then makes for a fun and fluffy slip and slide.
What you'll need:
- Large roll of plastic sheeting (at least 4mm thick)
- Duct tape (heavy duty)
- Water hose
- First fold the plastic sheeting in half and tape the three open sides with duct tape, it helps to have assistance. Leave open a small hole for the water hose. Extra Tip: For an extra "wow" factor, you could add bright blue food coloring, glitter, confetti, gummy worms or fish during this step. Just make sure the items are very soft with no pointy edges.
- Put the water hose in the small hole and let it fill.
- When it’s totally full, tape the small opening shut and let the kids loose!
It is that simple and easy! To prevent rolling you will want to make sure the kids play on a flat surface. Also, to prevent small holes from forming, you may want to limit the number of children play on the water blob at the same time.
