Here are 3 things every seller needs to be aware of. If you go into the selling process knowing these upfront, you have a better chance of selling your home for the most money in the shortest amount of time. This is part one of a three part series.
Clean the Home to Sell – When buyers come through your home, it is important that the home be clean and uncluttered. Cleaning and uncluttering the home will help keep you from losing thousands off of the sale price.
Smelly homes sell for less – If your home smells from pets, smoking or anything else, you need to take steps to remove the odor. Very few things will turn off a buyer quicker than walking into a home that smells bad. You may have become nose blind to the smell because you lived with it day in and day out, but if others can smell it when they walk in your home chances are that they will not make an offer and may not spend time really giving your home a fair shake. Clean the home completely including washing walls, floors, carpets, fabrics, etc… A clean smelling home has a much better chance of selling than one that smells badly.
Buyers want to see themselves in a new home, not you – When buyers walk through your home they want to envision themselves living in the house and imagine what the house would look like with their personality taking center stage in the house. This means that you need to declutter the home of things that scream this is your home. Remove as many pictures of family, paint neutral colors, pack up the extra things around your house that you don’t need on a daily basis.
