Helpful Hints for the First-time Homebuyer

First, be clear on what you really want and what you can compromise on. No home is going to be perfect. If the property doesn't have it, make sure it is something you could modify or change later.  Second, do your research.  Go online and narrow it down to the neighborhoods you want to consider....location you can't change later!  Next, talk to the bank.  Find out before you start looking how much you can afford.  Have the lender prequalified you or take the time to get pre-approved, which takes a little longer but makes you a stronger buyer if you are competing with other offers.  Then, think about the future.  Is this home to be a starter home, or one to fix up and flip, or one you will raise a family in for the next 10-20 years?  Especially first time home buyers should think ahead to their long term plans.  Finally, find a good Realtor.  They will be invaluable.  They will help you find the best match for you and be an effective negotiator for you so you can get the most house for your money.  Then enjoy your new life as  a homeowner!!
