Keeping energy cost low this summer

Keeping energy cost low as a homeowner this summer can be a challenge.  Here are a couple tips:  open windows at night, shut and latch the windows when the air is on and take advantage of your ceiling fans by keeping the thermostat high and using those ceiling fans!

And helpful hints to save energy all the time:  use the microwave, don't use appliances during peak hours, the dishwasher is more cost efficient if full than washing by hand, turn off lights and appliances when you can.  Even computers and TVs in the standby mode can use a lot of electricity over time. Try shutting them off by plugging them thru a power strip board that can be switched off.  Keep the refrigerator and freezers full, they run more efficiently. And get rid of all your old standard light bulbs for compact florescent or LEDs!
