Labor Day weekend is a great time to sit back, relax and enjoy some of the last days of summer before the colder months. Whether you're sitting poolside or grilling burgers, it’s important to follow these basic safety tips.
When grilling this Labor Day weekend, keep your children and furry friends away from the grill, and never leave it unattended while in use. When starting the grill, never add charcoal starter fluid after the coals have been ignited. If you have any questions about your grill, refer to your manufacturer’s instructions.
Just like grilling, never leave your children unattended while playing in a pool, lake or while partaking in other water activities. Provide life jackets to children of all ages while on the lake, and keep inexperienced swimmers within an arm’s length away. Make sure you know CPR and have access to a cell phone should the worst happen.
"The sun’s ultraviolet rays can damage your skin in as little as 15 minutes," according to the CDC. If you’re outside for the day, make sure the entire family wears broad spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 15 – even if you’re a good at tanning, or it’s cloudy outside. Sunscreen works best when combined with other sun-protectant options, such as hats, sunglasses, and shade.
I hope you have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend.
