Growing up in Pittsburgh, PA to my Dad who works in the steel industry and my Mother, a Registered Nurse; I was taught the ethic of hard work and the value of a dollar. I got my 1st job at 9 years old helping my older sister with a paper route, then a few years later started my own neighborhood lawn care business. These values extended to my University experience and my 20+ years of Hospitality and Food Service. During these years of working in the service industry I had the great opportunity to meet hundreds of thousands of people and work closely with a diverse group of hundreds more. I learned that everyone is different, has different goals and has different personal needs. It is those traits that make me a great representative for you and your expectations. Whether I am working hard to sell your property or listening to your needs in a new home, I ensure that the values I have from my youth continue to be apart of my daily work to provide you the best service in the industry.
Community involvement has always been important to me. I am a regular volunteer with Jr. Achievement Educational Programs in the general Duneland Area and typically teach the entrepreneurial program. I enjoy the look in the students eyes as we talk about future business ideas and potential for new inventions or innovations. I hope that one day a current 4th or 5th grader contacts me to tell me that they began their own business or created a new "thing" and they remember me talking to them about lemonade, hotdogs, robotics or technology concepts.
Previously, I also worked with Pro-Start Educational Programs in the Chicagoland area with a focus on the Culinary Programs offered at some of the High Schools. Watching the skills and dedication of the next generation of chefs and cooks was eye opening to me and very satisfying. Having big dreams and goals is great!
I am a volunteer intern with the Master Gardeners Program though Purdue Extension in Valparaiso. I love growing vegetables, fruits and flowers. I get particular enjoyment out of teaching my children the skills to help feed ourselves and our neighbors. Whether it is the first blooms of late winter "Snowdrops", the first sprouts of spring peas, summer's tomatoes or the picking of apples and peaches during the fall; I find that time in the garden is always time well spent.
I also ensure I can have time to coach our youngest son with soccer and volunteer that time with Duneland Soccer Club. I played soccer all my life and competed for my University at the NCAA Division III level. I get a huge kick watching him play and teaching the other teammates the value of working to together, having fun and the importance of excise.
