I love the idea of Farmers’ Markets. Supporting local businesses, eating better, getting outside early on the weekend!
Hope to see you at the The Farmers Market 102nd Season Kick-Off!
MARKET DEBUTS JUNE 7 FOR 102nd SEASON|
More than 50 vendors offering the freshest produce, tasty products, artisan crafts, and more; along with children’s activities and live music headline the debut of Aurora’s Farmers Market for the 2014 season Saturday, June 7, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Aurora Transportation Center, 233 N. Broadway Ave.
The market, the oldest in Illinois, will offer fresh-picked asparagus, lettuces, onions, greens, rhubarb and a wide variety of other produce; along with bedding plants and hanging baskets. Merchants will also be on hand offering old world breads, cheeses, baked goods, preserves, locally smoked bacon, bratwurst, sausages, beef, pork, lamb, and many other delectable products.
The Farmers Market is partnering with the Aurora Public Library and their summer reading kick-off event, “Fizz Boom Read!”. Other “extras” at the market debut will include crafts by the SPARK Aurora Early Childhood Collaboration and the Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois; “Meet & Sniff” pet adoption from Aurora Animal Control and Care; and free "Sunken Garden" tulip bulbs and tomato plants from the Friends of Phillips Park. In addition, Louche Puce Market will be on hand to offer a preview of their French-style flea market that begins June 14 in downtown Aurora, and Mr. C's Bees will present a display on the importance of bees & beekeeping.
Patrons who ride their bicycles can take advantage of the complimentary “Bike Valet” which includes a bike check-up at no charge courtesy of Journey Cycle and BMX. This week’s “Music @ the Market” will be performed by well-known keyboardist Ron Newman.
