Nominations are now being accepted for the "2016 Outstanding African American Award" that will be presented by Aurora's African-American Heritage Advisory Board (AAHAB) during the 12th Annual Heritage Dinner on Friday, February 26, 2016.

Cowherd Scholarship - Scholarship Application

Each year, AAHAB presents scholarships to Aurora high schools seniors, appropriately named The Cowherd Scholars, who demonstrate academic excellence in school and selfless service in the community.

Deadline for submission is Friday, December 11, 2015.

AAHAB Seeks Nominations for
2016 Outstanding African-American of the Year
Scholarship applications for high school seniors available
 
Nominations are now being accepted for the "2016 Outstanding African American Award" that will be presented by Aurora's African-American Heritage Advisory Board (AAHAB) during the 12th Annual Heritage Dinner on Friday, February 26, 2016.
 
The Outstanding African-American of the Year Award is bestowed upon a local African-American each year who has demonstrated consistent leadership in and committed service to Aurora's African-American community and the City at large.  Previous award recipients are: Judge Keith Brown, Henry Cowherd, Donnell Collins, Alderman Scheketa Hart-Burns, Sherman Jenkins, Cynthia Latimer, Clayton Muhammad, Archie Needham, Lillian Perry and Anthony Stanford.
 
Nominations must include a brief biographical sketch of the nominee and detailed information of his or her work in the community.  Submissions can be made by individuals and organizations by completing the nomination form (also available at www.aurora-il.org) or email the requested information on the form to AAHAB Chairman Toussaint Smith at tou828@gmail.com. Deadline for submission is Friday, December 11, 2015.

COWHERD SCHOLARS
AAHAB is also taking applications for the 2016 Henry Cowherd Scholarship, named in honor of Outstanding African-American of the Year Award recipient Henry Cowherd.  Each year, AAHAB presents scholarships to Aurora high schools seniors, appropriately named The Cowherd Scholars, who demonstrate academic excellence in school and selfless service in the community. 
 
The scholarship application is available here and also online at www.aurora-il.org. Applications and supporting documents must be postmarked by Friday, December 11 or hand-delivered/emailed to the contact information on the application by Monday, December 14, 2015.
