Guard your water pipes this winter

With the very deep frost levels this winter due to the extreme cold, we all must take steps to keep our pipes from freezing.  If your water is very, very cold or 34 degrees, you could be in trouble.  One suggestion is to leave a pencil sized stream of water running over night and be sure to use 5 minutes of water every couple of hours in the day time.  The city will not reimburse for the cost of leaving the water run but says it should cost about an extra $1.50 a day to leave the trickle of water run all night.  Also, be sure to keep the heat on in the basement....residents are responsible for broken meters.  Spring is coming but the frost will come out of the ground slowly once the temperatures start coming up.
