Batavia Real Estate Listings and Information

It has been suggested that with the Fox River as the centerpiece, Batavia in some ways looks like a
town that time has left alone. Still other people have observed that life in the town fits the description
of small town life written about by the likes of Mark Twain or Sinclair Lewis. The Batavia story is one
of heritage. Founded in 1833, it is the oldest city in Kane County. The original founding father, a
trailblazer named Christopher Payne, had participated in the founding of nearby Naperville, and after
leaving his mark on Batavia, did a similar thing at the place which was to become Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.

Today, Batavia remains the home of over 200 varied manufacturing, research and warehousing firms
as well as proudly serving as hometown for the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, worldrenown
center for high energy physics research, and Mooseheart, the international ‘childcity’
of the Moose Lodge.

Serving the community of Batavia for more than 45 years, the Batavia Park District manages 350
acres at 40 different sites throughout the city. The most centrally located park, the Riverwalk, is a
gathering place for the community. It’s a place where Batavians can listen to a concert, attend a
festival, walk through the Wildflower Sanctuary or just sit and enjoy the serenity of the river flowing
