The old school-house is one of the best preserved public schoolhouses in Michigan and is a fine example and is especially loved for its unique architecture. Douglas also offers both walking and river boat tours on the history of Douglas.

Douglas offers plenty of options for the music lovers. You can find live music at  Everyday People Café and Respite. At Saugatuck Brewing Company you can also hear live music as well as sample one of their many microbrews or be your own brewmaster with your own beer making session. At  Express Yourself Art Barn, visitors can choose from a myriad of projects varying in skill and budget, there literally is something for everyone. For those who would rather view than create, visit the  KubiakThistle, andWater Street galleries.


Douglas offers various recreational opportunities such as an afternoon at Beery Field & Playground or Shultz Park.  Enjoy the sun at  Douglas and Oval Beach, or rent a canoe or kayak at Wade’s Bayou. Locals can also catch a  Douglas Dutchers vintage baseball game. For the golf lovers, Douglas has two course options at the  Ravines Golf Course and Clearbrook Golf Course which was given 4 ½ stars by “Golf Digest’s Places to Play” in 2012. 


You won't find a better selection of local restaurants, culinary hotspots and cafes than Downtown Douglas. Downtown truly has it all from small coffee shops and gelaterias to bakeries and pizza parlors or bistros and fine dining.  Enjoy a bottle of wine or a cocktail and admire the sunset from one of the local outdoor patios.
